With just over 104K people packed into the AT&T Stadium to see the concert, Strait broke a 33-year-old record of 87.5K set by the Rolling Stones. Fans were treated to 40 songs, and guest appearances from Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and many more.
In total the 62-year-old played 20 of his No. 1 hits, plus covers of songs like ‘Jackson’ and ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ by Johnny Cash. The set ended with ‘Undwound’ before fans brought him back to the stage for an encore. Every guest star came along with him to sing three songs, closing with ‘The Cowboy Rides Away’ from his ‘Does Fort Worth Every Cross Your Mind’ album.
The concert closes a storied chapter in Strait’s life and career. He’ll no longer tour regularly, although he hasn’t ruled out playing select dates each year. Previously he’d even suggested that he’d entertain an offer for a Las Vegas residency.
Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson and Martina McBride also joined Strait on stage.
